Alpha Omega

Color: Deep black cherry and a profound dark ruby on the rim. On the nose: Cherry, blueberry jam, violet, lavender, cassis, black pepper, oregano and cigar tobacco with touches of cherry blossom, chocolate and cinnamon. On the palate: Ripe tannins with a full mid palate and dark fruit-like cassis, black cherry and cider wood lingering on exotic fruit, red currant, a mixed berry fruit pie and fresh cut flowers.

Wine Spectator

A huge step up in quality and price for this winery. Combines richness, depth and complexity with elegance and finesse. Full-bodied, showing fleshy currant, black cherry and blackberry fruit, with hints of spice, nutmeg and black licorice. Fleshes out to reveal a long, lingering finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2016.

Score: 94. —James Laube, April 30, 2009.

Wine Enthusiast

This is a Bordeaux blend. It’s very dry and very tannic, and high alcohol gives it a not unpleasant heat that lifts the blackberries and cherries into roasted fruit territory. You’ll find additional notes of dark chocolate, licorice and pepper. Could develop over the long haul.

Score: 92. —Steve Heimoff, June 01, 2009.

Wine Advocate

The 2006 ERA Proprietary Wine, which is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with small quantities of Merlot and Cabernet Franc blended in, offers plenty of spicy new oak, but it is nicely counter-balanced by abundant black currant, tobacco leaf, smoke, cedar, and spice box characteristics. Dense, fleshy, and full-bodied, it will benefit from another 1-3 years of bottle age, and last for 15 years. (90+)

Score: 90. —Robert Parker, December 2009.
