Maison Champy

Deep ruby color. Good aromatic intensity. Delicate and complex peppery/spicy nose with notes of chocolate, torrefaction and liquorice. Straight forward round, rich and well balanced. Powerful and racy. Lingering after taste with soft tannins. Service: The powerful flavors and aromas of this Mazis-Chambertin calls for a somewhat full-flavoured and elaborate cuisine such as leg of lamb, boeuf bourguignon, civets, coq au vin, game pâtés, eggs in red wine sauce and strong-tasting cheeses other than blue cheeses.

Wine Spectator

Stunning aromas of violet, ripe fruit and a hint of game mark this seductive red. Both succulent and chewy, with dense tannins deftly woven into its fabric and a lovely sweet fruit and mineral finish. Best from 2008 through 2020.

Score: 96. —Bruce Sanderson, February 28, 2007.

Wine Enthusiast

Classic Gevrey-Chambertin, with all its structure and its velvety, intense fruits, this wine already offers full pleasure. If the tannins promise some aging, they do not detract from the rich, sweet fruits and the light, fresh acidity.

Score: 91. —Roger Voss, March 01, 2007.
