Domaine Francois Parent
Domaine Parent was well established in the late 18th century, having been founded in 1630. The current François Parent is the 13th generation to practice the art of the vigneron. An avid hunter as well as excellent winemaker, he is proud to serve his guests a selection of the finest crus (or vintages) of the Côte de Beaune at a dinner of sanglier (or wild boar) or pheasant. Since the 1998 vintage, François Parent has split with his fathers and sisters, founding a separate domaine based on his own share of the family's vineyards, and named Domaine François Parent. François Parent's winemaking philosophy is described in detail in the adjacent section on his wife's wines (Domaine Anne-Françoise Gros) but it deserves repeating here that Parent is a dedicated believer in terroir. His wines are as distinctly Côte de Beaune as the wines he makes for his wife's domaine are classically Côte de Nuits. With an average yield of 35 hectoliters per hectare they show a delightfully smoky, bacon-fat aroma mixed with strawberry and dried cherry notes, a silky mouth-feel, and very fine length.
